Habanera played at a concert by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Toivo Haapanen on January 22, the first orchestral work by Klami to be performed in public.
Highly-acclaimed, even sensational first concert of his compositions held at the Helsinki University Hall on September 27. Programme: Habanera, Une nuit à Montmartre, Three Chinese Songs and Karelian Rhapsody. Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Leo Funtek, soloists Ernst Linko and Anna Hagelstam. Heikki Klemetti writes in Uusi Suomi: “All in all, one is relieved of all doubts when listening to Mr Klami; it is obvious that he knows what he is doing and is able to achieve his wishes. And that he has what it takes, to use a customary phrase.”
The Kordelin Foundation awards him a grant of 10,000 marks.
In the autumn, departs on a 6-month study trip to Vienna, where he possibly receives some instruction in composition from Hans Gál. Probably hears Bartók and Ravel performing some of their works; the latter’s repertoire includes the Bolero.
