Premiere of the 1st version of the four-movement Kalevala Suite at a concert by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Georg Schnéevoigt on December 1. Evert Kattila writes in Helsingin Sanomat: “Here at least Klami speaks an entirely independent language. His creative musical invention and artistic moulding are altogether original. It is so new that although this four-movement orchestral suite is titled ‘Scenes from the Kalevala’, it never calls to mind even our earlier National-Romantic compositions. Klami follows a path of his own. Once again, new paths have been forged in Finnish orchestral composition.”
